Annecy is located in Upper Savoy (department number 74), in the Rhône-Alpes region of France.
Capital of Upper Savoy, Annecy is a city of Art with a magnificent architectural harmony. The walk in the old Annecy is a real
delight. With its charming canals, its flowery banks, its small adorable bridges and its beautiful houses with colored facades, Annecy carries really well its nickname of Savoyard Venice. How pleasant it is to promenade along its canals or to walk in its lovely pedestrian alleys!
In the heart of the old town, the Île palace, a former prison and law court, shelters today the Annecy History museum. Near this symbolic building of the XIIth century, the Sainte-Claire street is also an inevitable place during the visit for its beautiful houses with arches. Overhanging the city, the museum-castle, former residence of the comtes de Genève and the dukes of Genevois-Nemours, is dedicated to archaeology, ethnology, art, history and alpine lakes.
To complete this beautiful visit, there’s nothing like a walk at the edge of the magnificent Annecy lake. A mandatory stage! The Europe gardens, the Amours bridge stepping over the Vassé canal, the Albigny avenue lined with plane trees and the Champ de Mars are magnificent sites convenient to relaxation. To better discover the lake and its surrounding mountains, cruises aboard speedboats, as well as pedal boats and small motorboats rents are proposed to the visitors.
